Meeting with Ambassador of Singapore to Viet Nam
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam, Prof. A. Saj U. Mendis had a meeting with the Ambassador of Singapore to Viet Nam, His Excellency Jaya Ratnam, at the residence of the Ambassador Ratnam. During the 60-minute congenial and focused discussion, the two envoys discussed a number of subject matters ranging from geopolitical, geoeconomic, and geostrategic including but not limited to trade, investments, tourism, employment, manufacturing as well as regionalism and multilaterism impacting both the countries. Singpapore is the largest foreign direct investor in Viet Nam followed by South Korea and Japan respectively. The two Ambassadors discussed the close and genial bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Singapore and the manner in which the countries have developed. Ambassador Ratnam stated that Sri Lanka has increasing potential to become a leading economic, commercial, trading, manufacturing and touristic hub not only in the region but in the entire Asia. Today, Singapore based on GDP per Capita on Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) is the third highest in the world. Singapore is one of the three countries having bilateral trade larger than the GDP of the country and another country in Viet Nam. Both the Ambassadors agreed to work in close cooperation and in a concerted manner, thus benefiting the intrinsic and inherent interest of the two countries.
