Meeting with Ambassador of Bangladesh to Viet Nam
His Excellency Lutfor Rahman newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh to Viet Nam had a courtesy call meeting with Prof. A Saj U Mendis, Sri Lanka Ambassador to Viet Nam on 12 March 2024. While warmly welcoming the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Viet Nam, Prof Mendis shared his experiences and positive sentiments on Viet Nam and briefed about the Viet Nam’s recent achievements and progress as an emerging economic giant in the Asian region and in the world.
Prof. Mendis, Minister Counsellor and the Minister Commerce had a thoughtful discussion on Bangladesh and Sri Lanka relations since Bangladesh stood with Sri Lanka as staunch ally in the South Asian region in most difficult situations in Sri Lanka. While thanking for Bangladesh for its financial assistance to Sri Lanka under currency swap agreement in May 2021, Prof Mendis discussed about the potential areas for further cooperation in particular by promoting pilgrim tourists from Viet Nam to Sri Lanka through Bangladesh. Ambassador of Bangladesh to Viet Nam further emphasized the need to cooperate with Sri Lanka in trade and shipping industry while emphasizing the Blue economic targets of Bangladesh.
In response to the query of Prof. Mendis with regard to the Foreign direct investments flow in Bangladesh, His Excellency Md. Lutfor Rahman newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh to Viet Nam stated that Bangladesh is still considering and giving utmost priority to Bangladesh local investors and Government to Government Business (G-G) with the rest of the world while mentioning that the United States still remains the first place in Foreign Direct investment in Bangladesh in terms of energy and IT sector investments.
Ambassador Prof. Mendis extended his sincere appreciation for the scholarships provided by the Government of Bangladesh to Sri Lankan students to study Medical and Dental science in Universities in Bangladesh while mentioning the existing areas of cooperation on youth Agriculture and Heath between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
