Dr. A. Saj U. Mendis, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam’s visit to Ho Chi Minh City, from 6-9 December 2023
Dr. A. Saj U. Mendis, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam visited Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam from 6th to 9th December 2023. The main objective of the visit was to visit the Viet Nam Expo as five Sri Lankan companies participated at the fair through the coordination and the involvement of the Embassy in collaboration with Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB).
Accordingly, Ambassador Mendis participated the grand opening of the Viet Nam Expo along with other VIP guests from various Ministries and Diplomatic Corps as per the invitation of Vinexad. (Vinexad, national trade fair & advertising JSC, the organizer of Viet Nam Expo)
Further the Sri Lanka Pavilion was ceremonially opened by Prof. A. Saj U Mendis, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam, along with Mrs. Shirley Marguerite Hopman-Aluwihare, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Ho Chi Minh City, Mrs. Nguyen Van Nga, Director General, Agency for Southern Affairs of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Viet Nam, Mr. Vo Tan Thanh, Vice President of Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industries (VCCI) and Director of VCCI Ho Chi Minh City, and Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Standing Deputy General Director, National Agency for Southern Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology by lighting the oil lamp and ribbon cutting. Ambassador talked to the Sri Lankan companies on exporting opportunities in Viet Nam and encouraged them to maximize the benefits in their participation in Viet Nam Expo.
In parallel to the Expo, Ambassador Mendis and Minister (Commercial) had meetings with Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nam, President of the Viet Nam Food Association and Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA) and discussed the potential areas of cooperation.
Further, Ambassador Mendis had a meeting with RMIT University where opportunities for education corporation was explored. He also had meetings with Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industries (VCCI) and Ho Chi Minh Peoples’ Committee where areas of cooperation were discussed in terms of trade and commercial spheres and bilateral social, political, cultural and tourism spheres respectively.
He further had meetings with the corporate captains of Victoira’s Secret, Citi Bank, Alliance One International, Apple Tree Entrepreneurs in Asia and Annam Group and explained the trade and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka and invited them to consider Sri Lanka as their next investment destination.
