Bodhi Tree praying ceremony in Bai Dinh pagoda, Ninh Binh province
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in coordination with Bai Dinh Pagoda in Ninh Binh Province in Viet Nam held the first Bodhi Tree praying ceremony on March 24th, 2024 to commemorate the first Anniversary of planting a Sapling of the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, which was offered by the Bo Maluwa Temple in Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka and planted at the premises of the Bai Dinh Pagoda in Viet Nam on 25th March 2023.
Most Venerable Professor Dr. Lenagala Siriniwasa Thero of the Pali and Buddhist University in Sri Lanka, Professor A. Saj U. Mendis, Sri Lanka Ambassador to Viet Nam and Mr. Mahesh Premathilake, Minister Counsellor were instrumental to organise the first Bodhi Tree praying (Pooja) Ceremony on March 24th, 2024 to commemorate the first Anniversary of planting a Sapling of the sacred Jaya Maha Bodhi in Ninh Binh Province.
Most Venerable Thich Minh Quang, the Chief Abbot of the Bai Dinh Pagoda, and Mr. Truong, Director of the Bai Dinh Culture and Spiritual Area facilitated, coordinated and cooperated in organising the aforementioned event.
Most Venerable Professor Dr. Lenagala Srinivasa Thero of the Pali and Buddhist University in Sri Lanka conducted Dhamma sermon on “” Meritorious significance of Bodhi Pooja” whilst conducting the Buddhist religious rituals.
Most Venerable Thich Minh Quang, the Chief Abbot of the Bai Dinh Pagoda also conducted the religious rituals as per Mahayana Buddhist traditions and norms.
Addressing the Buddhist devotees gathering, Ambassador Professor A. Saj U. Mendis commended the facilitation, orchestration and cooperation extended by Bai Dinh Pagoda in Viet Nam to enhance the Sri Lanka – Vietnam Buddhist relations to a new plateau.
More than 1000 Viet Nam Buddhist devotees in Viet Nam participated in the first Bodhi praying ceremony to commemorate the First Anniversary of planting a Sapling of the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on 24 March 2024. Sri Lankan expatriate community led by Mr. Dhananjaya Rajapakse, Chief Executive Officer and the General Director of Lenia Aqua company in Ha Noi also participated and graced the event.
