Ambassador Prasanna Gamage meets with Mr. Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of Viet Nam Textile & Apparel Association
On the 09th of July 2020, Mr. Prasanna Gamage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam, met with Mr. Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of the Viet Nam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS), in Ha Noi to discuss cooperation between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam in the apparel and textile sectors. VITAS is the powerful umbrella organization of apparel and textiles sector entrepreneurs in Viet Nam.
Ambassador Gamage and Mr. Giang engaged in a comprehensive discussion relating to the apparel and textiles sectors of Sri Lanka and Viet Nam respectively, with special emphasis on the challenges confronting the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, and potential cooperation in the post-COVID business environment. Mr. Giang highlighted the importance of cooperation between apparel and textile exporting countries in Asia, rather than competition. Mr. Gamage, in agreement with Mr. Giang, reasoned that, indeed, the present challenges have generated numerous opportunities, particularly in maintaining supply chains and finding new source markets. Ambassador Gamage also proposed that VITAS link and cooperate with Joint Apparel Association Forum – Sri Lanka (JAAF – SL), which Mr. Giang generously welcomed, stating that such linkages would undoubtedly be beneficial to both countries. Mr. Giang further expressed his hope that JAAF – SL would be able to visit VITAS at an opportune date in the future.
Mrs. Prasadi Boomawalage, Third Secretary/Commercial of the Embassy assisted Ambassador Gamage, and the Chairman/VITAS was assisted by Ms. Hoang Ngoc Anh, Actg. Secretary General of VITAS.
