Meeting With President Of Viet Nam Union Of Friendship Organization & Vice Foreign Minister, Madam Nguyen Phuong Nga
The delegation of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Viet Nam including Ambassador Prof A. Saj U. Mendis and Minister Counsellor, Mahesh Premethilaka, together with support staff from the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Viet Nam had a meeting with Madam Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organization on 14th August 2023. The intensely focused discussion lasted over 45 minutes. Madam President Nguyen Phuong Nga is amongst the highest-ranking officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, holding the position of Vice Foreign Minister and former Head of the Country Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations as well as former Ambassador to Embassy of Viet Nam to the UN in New York.
Expressing his sincere thanks to Madam President for the meeting, Ambassador A. Saj U. Mendis highly appreciated the socio-economic achievements and diplomatic accomplishments of the Vietnamese Government in general, and the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organization in particular, over the recent years along with the long history of Vietnamese culture and people. Viet Nam has a fast and strong growth rate with many impressive indicators, in particular, attracting foreign direct investment with many large corporates investing in production of high technology, energy, manufacturing and services, amongst others.
At the meeting, both Ambassador Mendis and Madam President underlined several notable attainments in the cooperation between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka during the past decades. Ambassador A.Saj U. Mendis emphasized that Sri Lankan Government attaches great importance to the cooperation with the Vietnamese side in all spheres of mutual concern, particularly in the arenas of trade, investment, tourism, culture and people-to-people connectivity. In order to deepen and elevate the Vietnam – Sri Lanka relationship, Madam President suggested that the two sides coordinate, consult and support each other at multilateral forums, regional and international organizations.
Ambassador Mendis affirmed that, during his tenure in Viet Nam, he will strive his best to promote and nurture the traditional friendship between Sri Lanka and Vietnam to a higher plateau, contributing to the development of the two countries and the interests of the two people.
