Collaboration between the Faculties of Management Studies of University of Peradeniya and Ton Duc Thang University of Viet Nam
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Viet Nam facilitated a virtual meeting between the academics of the Faculties of Management Studies of the University of Peradeniya (UoP) and the Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) of Viet Nam, on the 23rd of September 2021. Academics of both universities shared views and exchanged ideas on possible future collaborations between students through academic exchanges, collaborative research, participation in international conferences, short study visits for post graduate students and the offering of short online academic programmes etc. The academics agreed to enter an MoU to consolidate and formalize these activities, and to initiate immediate action on the identified areas for cooperation.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Prasanna Gamage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Viet Nam, expressed his gratitude to the academics present at, and the organizers responsible for, the virtual meeting and emphasized that both universities possess the necessary academic competence and other resources to achieve the intended objectives. He also highlighted the importance of ameliorating people to people contacts through such initiatives, and reaffirmed the support of the Embassy for the collaborative efforts of both universities.
Dr. Dinh Hoang Bach, Director of the International Cooperation, Research & Training Institute of TDTU, in his remarks, underscored that due to the strong similarities between the Faculties of Management of both universities, there could be numerous opportunities for cooperation in the future. Prof. Athula Ekanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies of the UoP, explained the nature of the academic programmes being offered by his faculty and its willingness to pursue avenues for international exposure for both students and academic staff through international collaborations of this nature.
The Faculty of Management of TDTU was represented by Dr. Tran Thi Phi Phuong and Dr. Phung Minh Tuan, assisted by several other senior staff members. Prof. Ravindra H. Kuruppuge, Head of Departments of Operations Management, and Post Graduate Studies, Dr. Sujeewa Kodithuwakku, Head, Department of Business Finance, and Dr. S. Maheswaran, Senior Lecturer, Department of Operations Management, assisted Prof. Ekanayake during the virtual meeting.
