Driving License for Sri Lankans

The Department of Motor Traffic of Sri Lanka has revised the existing guidelines regarding the issuance of driver’s licenses for Sri Lankans living abroad. Applicable charges for the services provided by Sri Lanka Missions abroad have also been revised.

Renewal of Driver’s License

  1. Duly completed MTA 30/2 Offline Application – available at the Embassy
  2. Current driver’s license
  3. Medical certificate obtained from a recognized medical institution in the US
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card (not compulsory if the NIC number is mentioned in the passport)
  6. Documents to prove the visa  status in the US (Visa/PR Card/Wok Permit)
  7. Two black and white Passport size (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm)  photographs with white background
  8. Fee: US $ 115/- (late fee charges of US $ 10  is applicable per each lapsed year)

Duplicate of a Driver’s License

  1. Duly completed MTA 30/2 Offline Application – available at the Embassy
  2. Copy of the complaint made to the nearest police station or deformed or blurred  Driving License
  3. Medical certificate obtained from a recognized medical institution in the US (Medical certificate is compulsory for Heavy Vehicles Licenses ( Motor Coach, Lorry etc..) . Medical Certificate is optional for Light Vehicle Licenses
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card (not compulsory if the NIC number is mentioned in the passport)
  6. Documents to prove the visa  status in the US (Visa/PR Card/Wok Permit)
  7. Two black and white Passport size (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm) photographs with white background
  8. Fee: US $ 115/-

Change of personal details of the Driver’s License

  1. Duly filled MTA 30/2 Offline Application – available at the Embassy
  2. Current Driving License
  3. Evidence for the changes (Marriage Certificate/ Birth Certificate /Divorce Certificate/ documents to prove the changes of residential address etc..)
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card (not compulsory if the NIC number is mentioned in the passport)
  6. Documents to prove the visa  status in the US (Visa/PR Card/Wok Permit)
  7. Two black and white Passport size (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm)  photographs with white background
  8. Fee: $ 115/-

Visa Notice

The Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka has announced the deactivation of the operation of www.srilankaevisa.lk website until further notice. The Department further informs that efforts are being made to restore the online visa process at the earliest.

During the interim period, tourists from eligble countries including India can obtain visa on arrival at the port of entry in Sri Lanka.

Please note that on-arrival visa is not available for the passport holders of Afghanistan, Syria, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, North Korea and Myanmar. However, nationals from the above countries can apply for visa from the Head Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration through a representative.

Nationals of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan who have the facility to obtain visa free of charge may also obtain visa on arrival at the port of entry.
