Issuance of Passports

Sri Lankan citizens by decent or registration are eligible to apply for Sri Lankan passport. Applicants are requested to submit the following documents enabling this Mission to forward the applications to the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka.

The process may take approximately from 06 to 08 weeks.

List of documents required for a new passport:
1.Copy of previous Sri Lankan passport
2.Letter of Request (Download)
3.Original of the visa/residence permit/refugee status certificate
4.Duly filled application form ‘K’  (download).

All the information should be furnished as required through the application.
5.Three color photographs (3.5 x 4.5 cm).

Both ears should be visible, without spectacles and the background of the picture should not be black or dark.
6.Original Birth Certificate authenticated by the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka with a copy.

Translations of Birth Certificates will not be considered as originals.
7.National Identity Card (copy of both sides).
8.Marriage Certificate with a copy (if required to change the maiden name)

The applicant should personally hand over the application, if residing in Russia. Others may send their documents through a third party with a formal Power of Attorney.

10.Professional certificate with a copy, if the applicant requires the profession to be included in the passport.

This document should be issued by the relevant authority, if not, the profession will not be included.
11.Original of the Citizenship certificate with a copy, if the applicant is a citizen by registration.
12.If the application is made after 01 (one) year from the date of expiry of the current passport, the applicant is required to submit an official document from the Immigration Office of the country of domicile confirming the residential status of the applicant in that particular country.
13.Relevant fee.
